CHOW
"CHOW is a new kind of food media. Not only is our subject matter different—about the parties you really want to throw, the meals you really want to eat, the gear you really want to have—but we deliver it to you in audio, video, and everything else the Web's got to offer. Come to us for recipes, instruction, news, entertainment, discussion, and advice. And come often—we update the site daily."
Chow is definitely a great resource for wine-imbibing enthusiasts. I believe that they attribute their success to the wealth of information that they provide to wine and liquor lovers. I don't see anything too special though, just like other websites, they have ads that don't even match the content in their site. When you sign up, you can join their community as well as receive updates on their website about not just wine but recipes, restaurants, and holiday specials.
VEGAS WINEAUX
I don't know that Vegas is a popular place for wines. Vegas Wineaux definitely has a lot of past featured articles you can enjoy reading. I would be more impressed though if I clicked on the "About Us" section and found Irene's words on how her website came to be. However, I did figure out how they started by clicking on their Vegas Wineaux club at the meetup.com. Here it is:
"Welcome to the Vegas Wineaux Wine Club! This is a little different from regular wine clubs. We will have "regular" home tastings; blind, double-blind, and triple-blind tastings; breakfast/brunch tastings; excursions; winemaker dinners, and more! While our numbers have to be limited, we are looking for those who are serious about wine, even if you don't know anything about it!"
Luxist
It doesn't help to have a website that loads like your grandma crossing the street. The subdomain "wine.luxist.com" should show up as a section of Luxist.com but does not. What you get is the generic front page with the latest posts derived from RSS feeds. Makes you wonder, where else do they get their information about wine and luxury stuff? Will Paris Hilton read this blog? Luxist is a member of the Weblogs, Inc. Network so I figure this is really just a part of a corporation of a bunch of other special interest blogs. I could go on forever saying that.
Pearson's Wine
Pearson's Wine would be a lot more interesting to read if they focused on the navigation aspect of their website/blog. They post stuff about their products, you could not click on "Tasting and Events". I presume it's a new blog but hey, it's interesting to know that Pearson's has been in the wine business since 1933.
Wine Country
The wine section of this website is not very updated. Graphically efficient, with articles written in Afrikaans at the bottom. If you like an opinionated and hard-working student of the vino university, read the Meet the Plonk section.
"I’m a cheap, off-beat and ill informed wine scribbler and I’ll be using this space to create some strong debate and raise some opinions on the finer details of wine, its people, the cultivars and hot topics that gets our blood boiling with passion....but with your help I will soon be able to keep a well substantiated argument on everything regarding wine and your job is to make sure that I become the master internet wine connoisseur, deal?"
Oh, I love that.
