Some Texas businesses send postcards and gift certificates. Others blog. Some set up seminars and meetings. Others advertise on TV. Portraits International in Houston, Texas come to your local area. They set up booths for showcasing the portraits, write down appointments for free makeover and hairstyling, offer free glamor outfits, and give you the option to purchase your glamor photos at different packages. How smart is that?

Honestly, if I wanted a glamor portrait, I could have just gone to a local JC Penneys or a neighborhood photographer. Instead, I had my shots taken with Portraits International. I didn't think of doing it, until Kris approached me at the local Base Exchange. Flattery aside, I believe it's an opportunity for me to try their product. Is there something unique about it? I don't think so. Photographers take pictures, use Photoshop, sell them for a profit. It's all the same stuff. But what made Portraits International stand out is their unique marketing strategy. They bring their crew (makeup artist, photographer, concessionaires) to various areas in the country in order to reach potential customers.

So learn from businesses who take a different approach. Sometimes you gotta go the distance in order to get on top!
