A local VCR shop did a job in two hours, instead of two weeks. They took the unit apart in front of the customer and showed her what was broken and what would be replaced, which reassured her that the work was justified. She picked it up in a couple of hours, and it had been cleaned as well. Not everyone wants to know what consumers are often suspicious that you're just "making things up" once you have their equipment in your power.
Cleaning is an example of throwing in an extra that doesn't cost you much while you're working on a job anyway and enhances the perception of service value.
